CAMPO ALGODONERO, CIUDAD JUÁREZ

(Cotton Field, Ciudad Juárez)

Campo Algodonero, Ciudad Juárez brings attention to the case “Cotton Field v. Mexico,” which denounces the disappearance, torture, rape, and murder of Claudia Ivette González, Esmeralda Herrera Monreal, and Laura Berenice Ramos Monárrez. Their bodies were found in a cotton field in Ciudad Juárez on November 6, 2001.  I preserve the cotton plant by electroforming it, encapsulating the plant with copper, giving strength and permanence. In solidarity with the victims’ families who have unrelentingly sought justice, this garland commemorates their deaths, acting as a reminder of gender-based violence.
