La Manda is a sacrificial promise made to a saint. This large metal cactus with sharpened silver thorns is meant to be tied around the neck as a supplication and a self inflicted burden. This piece calls to mind the sacrifices immigrants make to cross the border after the promise of a better life and hope to see their loved ones again.
